Alvin Kamara's usage rate is at an all-time high. Saints hope to 'even out' the RB touches.
This probably isn’t what the New Orleans Saints were envisioning when they made an effort to reshape their running back group this offseason: In four games since he returned from New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara's usage rate is at an all-time high, with him returning from a suspension and averaging 26 touches per game in four games since his return. Last week, this figure increased to a season-high 29, with Kamara responsible for 153 of the team's 407 yards from scrimmage. This is not by design, as third-round pick Kendre Miller had an issue with his shoulder during pre-game warmups and one of the Saints' top offseason players, Jamaal Williams, was playing his first game after a month-long layoff due to a hamstring injury.

This probably isn’t what the New Orleans Saints were envisioning when they made an effort to reshape their running back group this offseason: In four games since he returned from his suspension, Alvin Kamara is averaging 26 touches per game.
Last week against Jacksonville, that number shot up to a season-high 29, with Kamara recording 17 carries and 12 receptions. Kamara was responsible for 153 of the team’s 407 yards from scrimmage.
Even taking his three-game suspension into consideration, Kamara is on pace for 364 touches this season, which would shatter his previous career high (287).
As well as Kamara played with the ball in his hands, that number is not sustainable — and it wasn’t by design either.
Coach Dennis Allen said third-round pick Kendre Miller had “irritation in his shoulder” during pregame warmups, which limited what he was able to do. One of the Saints’ top offseason acquisitions, Jamaal Williams, was playing in his first game after a month-long layoff with a hamstring injury.
